In the Garden: Piñatas
A solo exhibition by Roberto Benavidez
Diana Berger Gallery
March 2 - April 6, 2023
In this video, we take a mesmerizing journey through the mystical garden of piñatas created by East L.A. based artist, Roberto Benavidez. Benavidez's work is playful and whimsical, exploring themes of race, sexuality, art, sin, humor, ephemerality and beauty. The exhibit, titled "In the Garden: Piñatas," brings together characters from multiple interrelated series of Benavidez's oeuvre, including creatures with eerily human features drawn from medieval illuminated manuscripts, animals from Hieronymus Bosch's Early Renaissance triptych The Garden of Earthly Delights, and birds with latent agendas simmering just below the surface.
This exhibition showcases several just-completed works on view for the first time, providing a unique opportunity to experience Benavidez's latest creations.
