Researching the Gilded Age and mimicking the elaborate ornamentation, rich materials, and extravagant excess of the Victorian Era is where Linda Vallejo began her most recent body of work, Brown Baroque: Objects of Opulence. For decades the well-established artist has used her talent, statistical and demographic information, references to popular culture, and her Chicana(x) heritage to create art that fosters questions, prompt conclusions, and calls to action.
Earlier bodies of Vallejo’s work like The Brown Dot Project, Datos Sagrados, and Make ‘Em All Mexicans make appearances in the over-the-top scenarios installed here. The modified objects interject levity and create disparate juxtapositions to capture the viewer’s attention while delivering statistical information relating to social and cultural issues surrounding color, class, privilege, visibility, and belonging.

Investigando la Era Dorada y mimetizando la ornamentación elaborada, los materiales opulentos y el exceso extravagante de la Era Victoriana es donde Linda Vallejo comenzó su obra más reciente, Barroco cafe: Objetos de opulencia. Durante décadas, la establecida artista ha utilizado su talento, información estadística y demográfica, referencias a la cultura popular y su herencia Chicana(x) para crear arte que suscita preguntas, llama la acción y provoca conclusiones.
Obras anteriores de Vallejo, como El proyecto del punto moreno, Datos Sagrados y Hazlos todos mexicanos, hacen apariciones por encima de los escenarios instalados aquí. Los objetos modificados introducen ligereza y crean diversas yuxtaposiciones para captar la atención del espectador mientras entregan información estadística relacionada con temas sociales y culturales en torno al color, clase, privilegio, visibilidad y pertenencia.
